Besinger-Score: Assessing Myasthenia Gravis Severity
Background
The Besinger-Score is a clinical tool used to evaluate the severity of Myasthenia Gravis (MG). It was initially proposed in 1983 by Besinger and colleagues with the aim of providing a quantitative method for assessing MG severity.
Development and Adaptation
The original Besinger Score was later adapted and expanded by the MG Foundation of America (MGFA). This revised version is the one commonly used today.
Clinical Significance
The Besinger-Score is a valuable tool for clinicians to:
- Assess the severity of MG in patients
- Monitor disease progression and response to treatment
- Compare patient outcomes and make treatment decisions
